Opportunity where it’s needed most. South32 designed Hermosa to bring brighter futures to a region positioned for growth.

Santa Cruz County is one of Arizona’s most economically undiversified regions, with unemployment well above the state average and nearly a quarter living below the poverty line. More than 80% Latino, the county is a tight-knit, active community anchored by Nogales.

Economic impact

Investing in Southern Arizona

Hermosa represents a once‑in‑a‑generation investment in Southern Arizona. Beyond creating jobs, South32 will generate significant tax revenue, support local suppliers, and stimulate growth across housing, education, healthcare, and small businesses throughout the region.

Careers that Build Futures

South32 designed Hermosa to support long-term employment, with a goal of hiring up to 80% of its workforce locally in roles spanning skilled trades, technology, operations and professional services.

Funding Community Services

South32 is expected to generate $26 million in local taxes and $29 million in state taxes annually through the project, supporting schools, infrastructure, and essential public services across Arizona.

Supporting Local Suppliers

Construction and operations will create sustained demand for local goods and services, helping small businesses grow and keeping economic benefits circulating within the community.
